If there’s anything that true of being a missionary, it’s that the Lord teaches you to think on your feet when the unexpected occurs. Check out the following excerpts from a CNN blog:

On the 17th day after the cave in, our Campus Crusade for Christ director, Christian Maureira, took the initiative to try to contact some leaders and authorities in the region with the purpose of sending down an MP3 copy of the “JESUS” film along with an MP3 copy of the New Testament.  After some time, God provided a contact with a daughter and a brother of one of the 33 miners.  The MP3s were given to the families and sent down the tube.  Jose, the contact in the mine, encouraged the other miners both spiritually and emotionally.  He sent Christian a letter which said in part:

“Thank you for this tremendous blessing for me and my coworkers.  It will be good for our spiritual edification.  I am fine because Christ lives in me.”

“We have prayer services at 12 noon and 6 pm.”

At the end of the letter he said goodbye and quoted Psalm 95:4 which says, “In His hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to Him.”

A few days later Jose asked on behalf of the miners that Christian help them by making some T-shirts.  The T-shirts were a gift from Campus Crusade for Christ

Chile.  In the front you can read, Gracias Senor, Thank you Lord. And on the back; the Psalm 95:4 which says in Spanish, “Porque en su mano estan las profundidades de la tierra, y las Alturas de los montes son suyas,” which means in English, “In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also.”

Christian said, “The idea was to glorify our Lord with all this and also to express our love and concern for them by giving them the ‘JESUS’ film and the Bible in audio through the MP3s.”
It appears that the T-shirts unified the miners as most of them came up wearing the shirts.
